About Bosporous Turkiye

The Bosporus is a narrow 32 km long north-south strait dividing Istanbul and is an internationally significant waterway in Turkey. It connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and separates the European part of Turkey (Thrace) from its Asian part (Anatolia). With its strategic location, the Bosporus has been a crucial trade route throughout history, linking the Mediterranean with the Black Sea and beyond. It's also famous for its stunning views, particularly in Istanbul, where the strait is a defining feature of the city's geography and culture.

The Bosporous is the only water wat for Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine to reach the Mediterranean Sea. The sovereignty over the straits is an important issue for these countries as well as Turkiye.

Turkiye does not receive any tolls from about 150 ships passing through the strait every day. Turkish military has broad powers in accordance with the terms of Montreux Convention.
